About

This page hosts my portfolio (under construction), resumés, image gallery (being populated), and blog.

I’m a graduate student in geography, currently living in Montréal, Québec, where I study at Concordia University. Soon, I’ll be relocating to Fernie, British Columbia, where I’ll be studying at Fernie Alpine Resort. My interests tend towards cities, wild places, and combinations thereof.

For my thesis research, I’m exploring the structural nature of the built landscape along the Lachine Canal in southwest Montréal. This fascinating part of the city is rich in industrial heritage and is undergoing some important transformations that reveal the ways in which major components of the built landscape (canals, streets, land parcelling) endure over time and give a distinctive shape to each city, town, and region.  Please see the research and publications pages (under construction, like everything at the moment!) for more details.

I’m looking to pursue work as an urban planner, designer, and policy analyst.  Within these disciplines, my focus is urban regeneration and heritage.  If you’re looking for someone like me for your team, please don’t hesitate to contact me at desmond[dot]bliek[at]gmail[dot]com.

Hope you enjoy the site.

Hey!! How are you?? I’m so chuffed I just foud you online. ^_^ I hope all is going well?

I finally finished college, and even got a “real job” to. Since I finished I’ve had it on my mind to drop you a line, and your parents to, though I wasn’t sure if you still have the same e-mail. By any remote chance, do you still have cycle_des@hotmail.com? I’ve just relocated to New York a couple months ago, but it’s not really been long enough to be settled yet, eveything is so fast paced. I spent a little while on my Aunt’s sofa looking for a house and a place to live. I’ve been lucky, and it’s all worked out really well. I’m about to write a letter to your parents and to Oma with my new address. I was going to try to get your contact info from them, but it occured to me to check online. How up to date is this? Are you still in Montreal? The last time we spoke, I think you had forecast a move to the west in a year’s time or so, but I think that would have passed by now. It was to do with a developing community out there, perhaps with oil or mining resources? I think it was considerably further North than Fernie though. Will you tell me what I’m thinking of? Did you ever pursue it? I’d love to know how you’re doing, and what you’re up to. I’ve only just arrived at the place where I am recenlty, but you know how I’ve got an over active imagination; I was thinking earlier today that I would love to take a year or two in Fernie. So reading your profile with mention of moving out there struck me as bloody awesome!
I hope you’re well. Will you fill me in on what you’ve been working on over the last couple years? Also, I haven’t got your parents’ e-mail address any more, could you pass it on to me please? I’ve turned into an avid knitter over the last few years, I’d love to show your Mom the sweater that I’m making!

Well, like I said, I’m so chuffed to have found you online. :o)

    Best reagards,

    Juliana
